Shabba & Meyiwa Seal First Win For Chiefs

Absa Premiership Report: Cape Town City v Kaizer Chiefs 13 September 2017

By Soccer Laduma - Sep 13, 2017 08:20 PM
Absa Premiership

Result: Cape Town City 0-2 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 13 September 2017

Venue: Cape Town Stadium

Siphiwe Tshabalala and Wiseman Meyiwa scored as Kaizer Chiefs defeated Cape Town City 2-0 at Cape Town Stadium.

Kaizer Chiefs welcomed back their influential captain Itumeleng Khune as they traveled down to Cape Town for a Absa Premiership match against Cape Town City.

The teams took some time get out of the starting blocks as the first couple of minutes provided no goal-bound action.

Chiefs got the first chance of the game in the 15th minute when fullback Philani Zulu found space in the City box but his tame shot was blocked by Robyn Johannes before fellow fullback Kgotso Moleko’s rebound effort went wide of the post.

That opportunity seemed to have opened the game up as City also looked to create a chance and Ayanda Patosi made a good run through the middle before Wilard Katzande blocked what would have been an attempt at goal.

Great interplay between Philani Zulu and Gustavo Paez saw the latter put Bhongolethu Jayiya through on goal and the Chiefs forward did well to cut in and create space for himself but his shot hit the upright to save City’s blushes.

The last exciting action from the half came from Simphiwe Tshabalala’s long range attempt after skillfully cutting inside.

Kaizer Chiefs got off to the best possible start to the second half as veteran midfielder Tshabalala created space for himself in the City box and fired his shot into the bottom corner to give his side a 1-0 lead just after the break.

The host responded well and Lehlohonolo Majoro saw his double attempt saved by Khune with the reboud balloned over the bar by Ayanda Patosi.

With 20 minutes remaining in the half, Komphela introduced Bernard Parker for Gustavo Paez before Thamsanqa Mkhize replacd Vincent Kobola for City a few minutes later.

Kaizer Chiefs withstood pressure from City and countered well with George Maluleka playing through teenager Wiseman Meyiwa and the young man composed himself to score a decisive goal to earn his side a well-deserved three points.

Here's how they lined up

City: 32. Stephens, 4. Kobola (Mkhize 78'), 27. Gumede, 16. Johannes, 5. Edmilson, 23. Matsi, 26. Nodada, 13. Modise (Masina 17'), 7. Lakay, 10. Patosi, 45. Majoro.

Chiefs: 1. Khune, Moleko, 26. Gordinho, 4. Cardoso, 22. Zulu, 31. Katsande, 12. Maluleka, 38. Meyiwa (Buchanan 88'), 6. Jayiya, 14. Tshabalala, 9. Páez. (Parker 70').

@MALOSE, my man, if we are commenting of the same league, no free agent is among the great strikers in the PSL. All free agents strikers combined, were unable to surpass Sergio Ramos' total goals scored last season.
