SuperSport United defeated the Nedbank Ke Yona team 2-1 thanks to goals from Thuso Phala and Aubrey Modiba.
In the early exchanges of the match Matsatsantsa nearly grabbed an early lead with Tefu Mashamaite coming close with a header from close range after five minutes.
Eric Tinkler's charges looked the more settled of the two sides in the opening ten minutes, with Reneilwe Letsholonyane easily dictating play in the middle of the park.
The Ke Yona Team started to get into the game around the 20th minute, creating chances in the final third, especially through set-pieces.
Thuso Phala played a fantastic through ball in the 32nd minute, putting Sfiso Myeni through on goal inside the 18-yard box but goalkeeper Mduduzi Khumalo was alert to avert the danger.
Phala then opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a low drive inside the 18-yard area, after turning a defender inside, out. 1-0.
Five minutes later, Phala almost turned to be a provider of the second goal after being given a lot of space in the right wing, his cross finding Mashamaite at the far post, however the defender's header went slightly over the bar.
Aubrey Modiba made it 2-0 in the 44th minute with a header inside the small box following a cross by Siyabonga Nhlapho.
The match went into the interval with Matsatsantsa leading by 2-0.
Eric Tinkler's side were knocking the ball around in the first ten minutes of the second half, seemingly comfortable with a two goal cushion.
On the hour-mark Makhosandile Platjie had an opportunity to pull one goal back, but his curling shot from inside the box went slightly wide.
Zimele Zuma hit the crossbar for the Ke Yona Team five minutes later after beating two markers from just inside the 18-yard area.
The Ke Yona team were now going for broke, putting Matsatsantsa under immense pressure in the 68th minute.
In the 77th minute the match was slowing down, with both teams making wholesale changes from the substitute bench.
Blessing Mavundla could have reduced the deficit in the 85th minute, but he fluffed his opportunity inside the 18-yard box after finding himself with acres of space.
The Key Yona team showed continued to put up a fight in the closing stages of the second half and they pulled a goal in the final minute of stoppage as Mpoto's error allowed Mduli to fire into an empty net.
