Fifa Confirms 2022 World Cup Final Date

Fifa Confirms 2022 World Cup Final Date

By Soccer Laduma - Mar 19, 2015 08:32 PM
Fifa has revealed that the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar will be held on 18 December, while the tournament could be shortened.

The tournament was moved from the traditional June and July slot due to the extreme summer temperatures in Qatar, which can exceed 40C.

With the final held on 18 December means that British clubs will be able to retain their traditional Boxing Day fixtures on 26 December, while fans also have enough time to travel home for Christmas.

The tournament could also be shortened to 28 days instead of the usual 30 to 31 days.

Walter De Gregorio, Fifa's director of communications, said: "This is for us an important step.

"Finally we know the end of the tournament. It's a Sunday and, by the way, it's the national day in Qatar, so it fits perfectly."

He added: "You have enough time to do your Christmas shopping."

Meanwhile, it was also decided that the 2019 Women's World Cup will be hosted by France, who won out over South Korea.
