English Premier League
Result: West Ham United 2-0 Huddersfield Town
Date: 11 September 2017
Venue: London Stadium
Ghanaian star Andre Ayew was among the goals as West Ham United claimed their first win of the season by defeating Huddersfield Town 2-0 on Monday evening.
The Hammers enjoyed a good start to the encounter, with Andy Carroll causing a lot problems with his aerial threat.
The hosts went agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute but Javier Hernandez hit the crossbar from close range.
Huddersfield, meanwhile, were on the back foot for most of the opening 30 minutes as they were wasteful when in possession of the ball.
However, the tempo of the first half simmered down in the final 10 minutes as chances were hard to come by from both sides.
The score remained goalless as the halftime break.
West Ham went close to taking the lead 10 minutes into the second half but Antonio fired just wide of the upright from inside the box.
Slaven Bilic opted for a change on 64 minutes as Hernandez made way for Ghanaian star Andre Ayew.
The hosts were rewarded for their dominance in the 71st minute when Pedro Obiang opened the scoring with a deflected effort from distance.
The lead was doubled six minutes later when Ayew poked home from six-yards out after Huddersfield failed to clear a corner.
Huddersfield nearly reduced the deficit in the 80th minute when Tom Ince rattled the crossbar from the edge of the box.
Nevertheless, 2-0 was how the score remained as West Ham ended a run of three successive defeats while Huddersfield suffered their first defeat of the season.
