Ben Motshwari joins elite company in reaching Orlando Pirates milestone

Ben Motshwari joined a handful of current Orlando Pirates players who have made 50 or more appearances for the club, and the midfielder has commented on his incredible milestone.

The 29-year old joined Pirates from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits in 2018 and moved swiftly to cement himself as one of the key players in Pirates' arsenal.

So rapid has Motshwari's rise been at Pirates that not even being the first player to contract COVID-19 could detract him from showing his influence in the middle of the park.

Focused on the job at hand as per usual, the Randfontein-born man was caught by surprise when he made his 50th appearance for the Buccaneers in their 1-0 win over Chippa United.

"Really?" a laughing Motshwari said. "I didn't know that. Wow!" was Motshwari's reaction to his milestone, in an exclusive interview with Pirates' media department.

Despite being with the Soweto giants for nearly three years, Motshwari says he does not consider himself as one of the leaders of the club as yet. Instead, he is learning as much as he can from the current leaders in the squad.

"I wouldn't necessarily say I consider myself one of the leaders. There are still plenty of leaders amongst the guys, you know... Happy Jele, Nyauza, and now recently, we have Thulani Hlatshwayo. But I'm learning a lot from these guys. They have been leaders for so many years. For me, it's about learning from them and striving to be a better leader," Motshwari added.
