Chiefs’ Masilela: “We’re Not Thinking About April…”
Tsepo Masilela Says Kaizer Chiefs Still Have Title Ambitions
Tsepo Masilela says that Kaizer Chiefs aren’t even thinking about next month – and a clash with Mamelodi Sundowns – as they focus on beating Baroka this week.
The Amakhosi are currently in fourth place in the Absa Premiership after 20 games, and just three points off the current leaders, Bidvest Wits.
Now, as they look to take advantage of the fact that Sundowns, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits are all in CAF action this weekend, Masilela believes that they will face a tough task against Baroka, despite their poor league form.
April is the month that could make or break the Glamour Boys’ title challenge as they face Downs, Cape Town City and SuperSport in the space of a few weeks, but their full-back isn’t looking that far ahead.
He told the club’s official website, “We are expecting a tough game from them, right now there are no more easy games. We are well aware that they are not in a good position and they are going to give their all, so we need to make sure that we are prepared and play a good game.
“At the moment we are taking it one game at a time. Our focus now is on Baroka and not thinking about fixtures in April. Let’s focus on Saturday and we’ll deal with games against the top teams when they come. It’s important that we don’t lose focus at this stage.
“We are at the crucial stage of the season where every three points counts. We are going for maximum points. If you take a closer look at the top four or five teams there’s little difference.
“You have to win your games to stay there and give yourself a good chance to fight for the league because with all these teams there it makes it that much difficult. We will try and focus on what we can control, which is our performance.”
