In-Form Chiefs Defender Targets The Top
Three South African Clubs Will Be In The CAF Group Stages
In-form Kaizer Chiefs defender, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, says the Amakhosi want to stay with the chasing pack, and always knew they would turn around their bad run.
After going eight games without a win in all competitions, the Glamour Boys now find themselves on a 14-game unbeaten run that has seen them rise to second place on the Absa Premiership table.
Only Willard Katsande (2070 minutes) has played more than ‘Rama’ (2037 minutes) for Chiefs so far in this season’s league campaign, and his form has surely put his name amongst the candidates for the PSL’s Defender of the Year award.
Speaking after his Man of the Match performance against Chippa United this weekend, Mphahlele told the club’s official website, “It was always going to be difficult to face a good team like Chippa United. Chippa likes to play and we prefer to keep the ball as well. It was set to become an interesting affair. I am happy to be selected as the Man of the Match, it all boils down to teamwork.”
Meanwhile, on the topic of the remainder of their campaign, the former Mamelodi Sundowns man said, “We want to stay at the top with the chasing pack… As you will remember, the last time we lost a competitive game was against Chippa. We have since been working hard on the mental aspect of our game. Our mind is filled with positivity and that helps us cope under pressure.
“Credit must go to our technical team. They are working hard to help us with a positive mind-set. When we were experiencing a slump, we always knew that we would bounce back. We have a good squad and personnel to fight for honours.”
Chiefs’ next game sees them face SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday.
