Eric Tinkler: This League Is Far From Over
Cape Town City’s head coach, Eric Tinkler, thinks that the Absa Premiership campaign is far from over, as the teams at the top are still faced with tough upcoming fixtures.
In a top of the table clash at the Cape Town Stadium last night, the Mother City-based club were able to snatch a point from their title-rivals, Bidvest Wits, after the encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.
On the other hand, Mamelodi Sundowns, who are also vying for the league title, claimed their third successive Absa Premiership victory, in an encounter against another top of the table team, SuperSport United.
Speaking after City’s draw against the Students, Tinkler thinks that despite coming away with just a point, he remains positive as Wits still have to come up against tough opponents such as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
“My outlook is positive, you have got to understand, like I said, what we have achieved this season is phenomenal. I said this the other day, this league is far from over. These teams still have to play each other and somewhere along the line, they (Wits) might regret this point that they only picked up here. They play chiefs, Pirates, those are not easy games,” Tinkler told the media.
“We have achieved above our expectations and we playing now, to try and break our own records that we keep breaking every day, every day that we pitch up for training, every day that we pick up a point, we are breaking another record. There is no pressure.”
“We obviously want to finish in the top five, we would love to finish in the top three if possible, and who knows, maybe we do win the league. A lot can still happen,” he added.
