Jose Mourinho Chooses His England Euro XI, Snubs Marcus Rashford

Jose Mourinho has revealed the England starting XI he would select ahead of the 2020 UEFA European Championship, snubbing both Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw, whom he worked with at Manchester United.

In a recent interview with talkSPORT, the new Roma manager put himself in Gareth Southgate's shoes to choose the team he would go with at the Euros.

The 58-year-old selected only one United player in the form of Dean Henderson for his XI, and preferred Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell to Shaw, whom he appeared to fall out with during his time as Red Devils manager.

With Harry Maguire struggling with an injury issue, Mourinho chose Tyrone Mings to partner resurgent Manchester City defender John Stones at centre-back, while Kyle Walker completed his back four.

In a two-man midfield, the ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss chose Leeds United holding midfielder Kalvin Phillips to partner West Ham United's tough-tackling Declan Rice, leaving Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson out.

On the left-hand side of the attack, Mourinho opted for Jack Grealish ahead of his former United forward Marcus Rashford, saying that: "Grealish is untouchable and his best position is coming in from the left.

"It creates a situation, because Rashford can only play there. When he plays on the right, he completely loses his dynamic, it is totally broken. He is very good on the left, attacking space. Grealish for me is tremendous in what he creates. He reminds me a little bit, I don't lie, he reminds me of Luis Figo... the way he gets forward, gets penalties, he's very powerful and I like him a lot."

He then selected Mason Mount in an attacking midfield role, with City's Phil Foden on the right operating as an inside forward and Spurs striker Harry Kane leading the line.
