Result: Stellenbosch 1-2 Cape Town City

Date: 15 December 2020

Venue: Danie Craven Stadium

Cape Town City moved into third place on the DStv Premiership standings with a 2-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC in the Western Province derby at Danie Craven Stadium on Tuesday evening.

City were enjoying the bulk of the possession and keeping the ball well and deservedly took the lead through Thabo Nodada with a brilliant goal in the 21st minute. The midfielder played a one-two with Mduduzi Mdantsane, before unleashing a powerful left-footed effort shot which nestled in the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

And eight minutes later, it was 2-0 to the Citizens. Bradley Ralani whipped a tempting ball into the box and Craig Martin got their ahead of Stellies goalkeeper Lee Langeveldt, whose hesitation in coming out costed him as Martin rounded the keeper and tapped into an empty net.

Stellenbosch launched a rare attack five minutes before the half-time break and Leletu Skelem was sent into space by Ashley du Preez, but the final shot was slightly wide.

Seven minutes after the halftime break, Peter Leeuwenburgh punched a cross out to the feet of Stanley Dimgba but the Nigerian was unable to find the back of the net from close range.

Stellies had another chance to pull a goal back In the 69th minute, but Zitha Macheke headed wide from Marc van Heerden's delivery.
