Guimaraes Put R52m Price Tag On Zungu?

Bongani Zungu's Side Want A Hefty Transfer Fee If Someone Wants To Buy Him

By Joe Crann - May 19, 2017 01:00 PM @YesWeCrann

Vitoria de Guimaraes don’t want to lose Bongani Zungu after offering him a new deal but could be prepared to let him leave if a hefty transfer fee is put on the table.

The Portuguese club signed Zungu last year after his Mamelodi Sundowns contract expired, landing the 24-year-old on a free transfer following his decision not to remain in South Africa.

Around one year down the line, Zungu has managed to make a real name for himself in the Primeira Liga, and as previously reported by the Siya crew, has attracted interest from a host of clubs both inside and outside of Portugal.

Now, with the player gearing up for this month’s Tace de Portugal final against one of his potential suitors, Benfica, it is thought that his club has named a price that they deem acceptable if matched.

The crew has been informed that the Bafana Bafana international would be allowed to leave if a club was prepared to put down €3.5m (R52 million) in return for his signature, with Guimaraes reluctant to lose him ahead of next season’s UEFA Europa League campaign.

Other European clubs are believed to have taken an interest, while a couple of English sides are also monitoring him despite the fact that, for now, he would struggle to get a UK work permit.

It remains to be seen whether Zungu, who has quickly become a favourite of Pedro Martins at his current club, will seek to move on or not, however, his current focus will be solely on trying to win his first piece of European silverware on May 28th

Only if he can be given more chances to represent his country. Stuart Baxter will prefer Furman and Andile Jali ahead of Bongani Zungu. Zungu will need the best agent and advisor. I always likening him as our Yaya Toure. The players I wan to see representing Bafana Bafana regularly are ( Zungu, Mokotjo, Luther Sigh, Mahlambi, Erasmus, Dolly, Rivaldo Coertze ) . As for Thulani Serero, he needs to find a team first and be a regular and a key player and then maybe he can be brought back to the Bafana set-up.

It's good to see a proudly SA made product costs this amount of money although it might block his way to greener pastures.
