McCarthy: They Played Right Into Our Hands

McCarthy: They Played Right Into Our Hands

By Soccer Laduma - Sep 10, 2017 05:37 PM
Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy says Bidvest Wits played right into their hands in the second-half.

An own goal from Amr Gamal and a second-half strike Lehlohonolo Majoro saw City come from behind to claim a 2-1 win at the Bidvest Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

"Football is a game of chess. When you study the opposition, you know how to avoid dangers, hitting them on the counter-attack. They're one of the best sides in the league when it comes to set pieces. I found out they're also vulnerable on counter-attacks," McCarthy told SuperSport after the game.

"I said to the guys as long as we stop them from their dangers, we need to capitalise on their weaknesses. I'm proud.

"We were never going to play the best football. It's English football."

McCarthy was also asked about his bright start to his managerial career with the Cape Town outfit.

"Three games three wins, I know I'm far from a thousand games as a manager but I'm not doing too bad hey," he added.

"I'm delighted for the team. I'm delighted for the Cape Town City fans. I'm delighted for the players you know because they're the ones who are putting the work every single day. The coaches, we work up to a certain degree but once they cross that line it's all up to them. The fought for it so the victory goes to them.

"We planned for when they were going to play direct long balls to Rodgers, with flicks on and second balls. First half we were a little bit disoriented because Gavin Hunt changed his team completely. They didn't play to what we expected them to do. After we got back into the game and they changed it to Rodgers and Klate they played right into our hands because we knew how to cancel them out, hit them on a counter and that's exactly what happened. I'm delighted for Major for getting his goal. Its nice to see when it pays off."

Well done Benni and the boys, keep it up guys. Stars studded team always battle in the long run, Hunt should have carried on with the team that won him the league last season and gradually introduce the new players in the game as the time goes on.

McCharthy is one of the best young individuals and he is on his way up as coach, he has proved his leadership capabilities with Pirates, the influence He have on players is out of this world, and Our own Komphela is a next victim. I mean He has just beat Hurt three times in less than a month. Happy for you and Teko.
