Messi Nets Brace To Maintain Barca's Title Charge

Spanish La Liga Report: Barcelona v Real Sociedad 15 April 2017

By SL International - Apr 15, 2017 10:36 PM

Spanish La Liga

Result: Barcelona 3-2 Real Sociedad

Date: 15 April 2017

Venue: Camp Nou

Lionel Messi netted a brace and bagged an assist to inspire FC Barcelona to a 3-2 win over Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants were without the services of Neymar, who served the first of his three-match suspension.

Sociedad had the chance to break the deadlock in the third minute, as Willian teed up Yuri inside the box, but Gerard Pique was on hand to block a certain goal.

Barca eventually broke the deadlock in the 17th minute as Messi created some space outside the box, before drilling the ball into the bottom corner.

Messi got his and Barcelona's second 10 minutes later with a simple finish from close range, after Luis Suarez's effort was saved.

The visitors pulled a goal back in the 42nd minute as Inigo Maritinez rifled the ball home from close range.

Barca then restored their two-goal lead two minutes later as Messi turned provider to play in Paco Alcacer, who slotted home from close.

However there was enough time for Sociedad to get a second goal before the break when Xabi Prieto found the back of the net with a fine volley, 3-2.

The visitors nearly leveled matters in the 62nd minute, but Pique once again came to rescue to deny Willain Jose in the box.

Luis Enrique opted for a change on 70 minutes as Andre Gomes made way for Andres Iniesta.

Sociedad pushed for an equaliser as the second half went on but Marc-Andre Ter Stegen came to Barca's rescue with a couple key saves.

Suarez nearly bagged a fourth goal for the home side in stoppage time, but Gerónimo Rulli produced a superb save deny the striker, as the score remained 3-2 at the full-time whistle.

The big problem currently with Barca is that when Gomes is playing it's just like playing with one man less...Enrique is hurting us, fortunately Messi will play for two so we keep being in with a chance despite Enrique sabotage.

@gangisamhlave useless goals? Excuse you, but then on the other hand I don't blame you, a Lost Blind Cow like you will never see it coming! Those "useless goals" from your cowish perspective narrowed the gap from 6 to only 3 which will be collected via the Santiago Bernacow next weekend!

This Laliga is far from over the title will be decided on May with that game in hand Celta Vigo, i can tell you now that Real Madrid will not beat that team especially as we will be building up to the CL final(yes we are going to the final) what we need to do is beat Barca at Bernebou than hopefully that will kill their confidence and then we push on harder

@ALEXIS BLUE Chelsea came to camp nou against the strongest Barca we have ever watched and parked the bus amd won, Bayern cam to camp nou against an almost as weak Barca as this one and won, they cam against the strong one a season before last and they lost when Messi killed Boateng, Real Madrid came to camp nou this season and drew so there's no camp nou pressure here, these Juve players are experienced players they know what to do
