Although Messi has often insisted he plans on retiring at Barca, a few clubs have tried to prise him away from the Catalan giants over the years.
Ronaldo shook up the conversation again in a recent interview, during which he stated that the 31-year-old should join him in Italy's top division.
Atalanta president Antonio Percassi has now joked that he would love to sign Messi ahead of his club's plans to move into a new stadium next season.
"He is the player that I'd like to present to our fans in our new stadium," he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Unfortunately, that's impossible.
"Works for the stadium are ongoing, we'll play the last two or three home games away from the Atleti Azzurri d'Italia, probably at the Mapei Stadium."
