Reports: FC Barcelona Have Verbal Agreement With New Coach, But…
FC Barcelona apparently have a verbal agreement with their new coach, but the oral contract reportedly has a special clause, which could still mix things up.
The Catalan giants are yet to announce who the successor to Luis Enrique, who announced he will leave the club after the current campaign, will be.
Spanish publication Marca has reported that current Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde, whose contract expires the end of the campaign, is the manager who will replace Enrique if both parties do not opt out by 31 May.
The report references Spanish journalist Olivier Goldstein, who claimed that the oral agreement includes a clause that both sides can still opt out of the arrangement.
Valverde has reportedly snubbed offers from Sevilla and Valencia in La Liga, as well as interest from Premier League clubs too.
It seems highly unlikely that the former Barcelona player will walk away from the opportunity to manage his former club, although he has reportedly turned them down before.
Blaugrana president Josep Maria Bartomeu is understood to have the final say. The club had initially set up a seven-man task force to find a new coach, but now the decision will apparently rest on Bartomeu's shoulders.
