Four years ago, the Germans were crowned champions of the world when they beat Lionel Messi's Argentina in the final in Brazil, courtesy of an extra-time winner by Mario Gotze.
Low's side were clinical all competition, and their best performance of the tournament was, without a doubt, their 7-1 drubbing of Brazil in the semi-finals.
This year, in Russia, Low will be relying on the form of playmaker Mesut Ozil, who almost always shines at international level. The Arsenal star is also the team's highest-paid player at club level, on £300 000 (R5.1 million) a week.
The second best paid German star is Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos on £200 000 (R3.3 million) a week, reportedly followed by Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus, who is said to be on a wage of £160 000 (R2.7 billion).
In third and fourth spots are Thomas Muller and captain Manuel Neuer, who are both said to be earning £130 000 (R2.2 million) a week at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Their club teammate Jerome Boateng follows them in sixth place with his reported wage of £120 000 (R2 million), along with Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who earns the same.
