Hamburger SV 0-0 Mainz

It was a relegation scrap when Hamburger SV played to a 0-0 draw against Mainz in a German Bundesliga match at the Volksparkstadion on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides were rather poor in attack and struggled to create any significant openings in front of goal which made for a rather dull game.

The draw leaves both sides still in fear of getting the axe from the German top flight.

Hamburger are still in the relegation zone in 16th place with 34 points from 32 matches while Mainz are one place better off with the same number of points but a superior goal difference.

Freiburg 2-0 Schalke

A brace from Florian Niederlechner handed SC Freiburg a 2-0 win over Schalke in a German Bundelsiga match at the Schwarzwald-Stadion on Sunday evening.

It was a fantastic first half showing from the home side with Niederlechner opening the scoring in the 22nd minute before adding a second from the penalty spot ten minutes later.

The second half was not as entertaining with Schalke trying to find their way back into the game, but they were unable to penetrate the Freiburg defence.

The win sees Freigburg up to fifth place on the log with 47 points from 32 matches while Schalke dropped to tenth with 41 points from the same number of games.
