Johnson Commends Defensive Efforts Against Chiefs

Platinum Stars coach, Cavin Johnson, has commended his team’s defensive effort after beating Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 in an Absa Premiership match on Wednesday night.

Dikwena scored their goals in the first half courtesy of strikes from Solomon Mathe and Enocent Mkhabela which set them up for a heroic defensive effort in the second half.

Speaking after the match Johnson said his team were impressive, especially against a side he considers is the best team in the country.

“We are happy with the three points,” Johnson told SuperSport after the game.

“We played against the best team in the country, they played good football. They don’t allow you to move.

“First half we got it right. We were able to get behind them, we took our chances and we scored our two goals.

It was always going to be an uphill battle for them to come out in the second half. They threw the kitchen sink at us. I thought they came close to it but we stood our ground and were able to hold them away from us in (the) second half.

“Credit should go to the boys for doing their job in the first half. We played a lot of attacking football and we did what we were supposed to do.

“In the second half we looked a bit scrappy and it cost us a little bit of extra effort to defend.”

Mathe was the standout player for Stars on the night and was rightly awarded the man of the match accolade.

Speaking after the game he admitted it was not an easy game, but highlighted his team’s hard work as the reason for the victory.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game against Chiefs,” said Mathe.

“They have good players but we worked hard and it was a great effort from the guys.

“I think credit should also go to the technical team. They taught us what we must do to avoid Chiefs when they are attacking us. We did that and we worked hard as a team.”

I was at Royal Bofokeng yesterday. I am a Khosi fan but yesterday I enjoyed the way Dikwena attacked us. First half our team was facing Khune all the way. Stars no35 wow he is amazing and Mathe destroyed our middle field. I must say all what we see is not an accident but an outcome of disrespect starting with Chiefs Management. Chiefs fans know that Bobby is a problem at chiefs. Mr K Motaung did well in his time but Bobby is destroying the legacy because he thinks he knows. One day KC will be sold before it becomes like Moroka Swallows. If they do not change the management nothing will work at chiefs. Well done to Khune, Rama, Shaba and Paez they gave their best this season.
