One of our supporters, Ant-55, was quick to point out that we may already all be Siwelele fans without realising it.
"I think somewhere deep down we all already are," he said.
We asked him why that was. What makes the supporters of Bloemfontein Celtic so special? Why do we not talk about them the same way we talk about supporters of other teams?
"What they've done in terms of pioneering a culture of love, admiration and belief is admirable, and I can't help but kind of wish they always do well. You should sit with their fans on game day… Amazing."
Ant-55 has a point. The rest of us seem to abandon our team like a broken umbrella on a rainy day when the going gets tough. We have our reasons, like why should we pay money for poor performances? However, there is something to be learned from the blind loyalty shown by Celtic's supporters.
The team has returned its respects to the supporters in recent weeks with some good victories. Out of interest, if the league had only been running for the past six games (i.e. on current form only), Phunya Sele Sele would be third on the log behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows, and Kaizer Chiefs would be 10th… Some food for thought.
