Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns are on course for a seventh successive title this season, and pundit Mark Haskins has given his view on Downs' 1000 pass strategy.

Masandawana, who are yet to lose this campaign, have two games in hand and boast a 42-game unbeaten run in the Premiership.

Following their last two games before the FIFA break, Downs were held by SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby before a late brace from Thembinkosi Lorch secured a win over Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup last 16.

Haskins believes that the rest of the league is beginning to up their game, but is of the opinion that comments made by star midfielder Teboho Mokoena and coach Rulani Mokwena about a plan to make 1000 passes in a game, is a sign of disrespect to opponents.

“It’s a good thing for the league if everyone is making it harder for Sundowns to win games. That means they are raising their level. I just feel that they need to be very careful because they can be border line disrespectful at times,” Haskins said in an interview with Sports Night Amplified.

“I don’t know if Teboho was supposed to say that in the media when he is talking about 1000 passes, I don’t mind wrapping up the league.

“It’s the 1000 passes I have an issue with. It’s disrespectful. It’s disrespectful to your opponents when now you are speaking not about beating your opponent, but by; we used to do that at training where you just keep the ball because you are tired of scoring.

“You are tired of winning so you now going to just keep possession, make the team look silly. The narrative is disrespectful because when you feel like you can just make a 1000 passes as if you are playing against mannequins.

“There’s an opponent, there’s another plan there. So, it’s borderline… That’s why I say it’s borderline disrespectful. They have to be very careful because that could lead to their demise,” he added.

Masandawana also have one eye on the CAF Champions League this season and meet Tanzania’s Young Africans in the quarter-finals first leg on Saturday.
